The DISMARC View Wordlist:wordlists and vocabularies aim to support the users in performing searching across a variety of archives and different catalogue data. Any new metadata that is harvested by DISMARC is checked and if appropriate enriched with DISMARC vocabulary terms. The mapping of the data to the vocabularies is mostly done in a second step after the primary data field mapping was completed. Registered users that carry out the mapping via the Data Mapping Tool may download all vocabularies and wordlists for this process.

The View Vocabularies function (which is only accessible for registered users) provides an overview of all the vocabularies available.

DISMARC provides controlled (structured) vocabulares and plain word lists.

The controlled vocabularies also appear in the Browse function BUT for browsing only those terms are displayed that do carry data!

The following vocabularies are integrated in DISMARC:

  • Basic Geographic Names
  • Geographic Names (historical)
  • Languages
  • Nationalities/Ethnical Groupings (IBSS and ET)
  • Non-Ethnical Groupings
  • Eras
  • Genres
  • Formats
